All things being equal, I will choose coffee over tea any day; but I have an second major variable of quality that intervenes when things are not equal: quality. In other words, crap coffee over crap tea and gourmet coffee over gourmet tea. But if it’s between Peet’s or Intelligentsia tea over Folder’s bought in bulk, pre ground, and with an open seal that allows air in the canister for a month at a time and brewed in an industrial diner coffee maker that hasn’t been cleaned since Ronald Regan was president (maybe longer), and yet it still costs 50 cents a cup to fund the purchase of more lousy coffee thus perpetuating a vicious cycle of violence, oppression, and tyranny upon those with a refined palate… well, in that case, I’m going with tea.
